So having plotted the rest of my Fairytale novel, which I started writing yesterday and which already has eleven thousand words, I decided that as the story takes place in April and May 2020, but we’re only in January, I need to shelve it for a while and let real time catch up.
Despite that, I wanted to keep writing something, so I decided to have a look at some unfinished manuscripts from the past. This one, started in 2012, caught my attention. It’s 9 chapters and 18000 words long so far, which was clearly all I managed up until 2nd September 2012 when I last saved it. As with so many other manuscripts on my computer, I clearly started writing it in the summer holidays, then ran out of time once the new term started.
I’ve spent the majority of today editing the manuscript as it was, bringing it up to date so that I can continue with the story. I don’t yet know exactly where to take the characters, and although I can sort of see where I was headed originally, I’m not entirely sure that’s the right direction now, as 2020 seems very different to 2012 in so many ways, but I’d like to try and finish it if I can.
This is my last free weekend for the next three weeks, and school is going to be manic, so I doubt I’ll make much progress on either book for a while, but as I find writing far more interesting than watching television, and as I really do find it relaxing immersing myself in the lives of my characters, who knows!
Watch this space!
